Tourism |
|||||
| Tourism brings major income to many communities. While visiting different tourism web sites, it totally amazed me to find Bed and Breakfast, Golf Courses and other recreational information, but not much about those quaint little flower and gift shops that cause women to drive 100 miles out of their way to find. | |||||
| As a retailer for over twelve years, I couldn't see a need for a web site. I thought if I wanted to ship products across the country, I would work to "get online". Also, customers were being bombarded with web addresses from every business and giving them another to remember seemed pointless. | |||||
| Our small town Chamber could not afford
a web site nor were they able to advise businesses of the benefits.
Although my store sat on main street with a busy highway going through
town, customers from all over the US would just happened in.
Really they noticed the awning and window display and out of curiosity,
would stop to shop.
Take a look at the potential in your community. It really costs very little to snap two digital photos - place on a one page web site and give simple details about a shop. Maybe they are not members. But in this case it should not make the decision as when those women drive the extra 100 miles to go to that quaint "little shop", they will probably need to stop and eat, fill up with gas and who knows maybe stay the night. |

| After watching the tourism sites and
wondering what would encourage my visit to their community, one top
reason would be those quaint "little shops". Many towns
have built thriving economy from shopping. We all know a few as
most of us have visited one.
You will want to keep this idea on the top burner at your next tourism meeting. |
